What type of flooring should I purchase?
Today’s flooring offers a wide variety of color, style
and quality. All flooring whether its carpet, hardwood or
laminate comes in various different qualities. The flooring
you purchase will depend a lot on your lifestyle. Julie
can help you determine which flooring will work best for
you if you have children, pets, rental property or if you
plan to sell in the next few months. Hardwood floors offer
exceptional warmth and durability with its uniqueness of
color, grain and personality. Laminate flooring offers you
an easy installation, easy to maintain and it’s easy
to love. Choosing the right carpet can give you many years
of comfort and durability.
If I
buy a really good pad, then I can buy an inexpensive carpet,
right?
Selecting the right pad can add years of long wear to your
carpet. But you should also select a carpet that offers
a warranty to match your expectations.
I have
a very active home with children and pets. What type of
carpet do you recommend I purchase?
We offer permanent stain protection carpeting. Such as Mowhawk's
SmartStrand, which provides an engineered-in, permanent
stain protection that is built-in so it can never wear off
or be washed off in cleanings. Not to mention this carpet
also offers exceptional durability.
What
is the warranty for my flooring?
Flooring warranties can vary from product to product depending
on the quality and manufacturer. Ask Julie what the warranty
is for the flooring you are purchasing.
Do you
install?
Unlike some flooring companies that just give out a list
of names, we offer a full service with our installations.
One call to Affordable Carpets is all it takes.
Do you offer free estimates?
Yes, we do offer free estimates, and thats why we offer
Shop at Home with Affordable Carpets. We prefer to measure
in order to determine how much flooring you will need. During
the measurement we are also looking at the old floor, checking
doorway trims, measuring steps/closets and addressing any
questions we may have about the installation.

What
should I do to prepare for my flooring installation?
• All small breakables, personal items, and electronics
(stereos, TVs, computers) should be out of the installation
areas.
• All items on hutches, entertainment units, and bookshelves
should be removed.
• Pictures and decorative items need to be removed
from walls.
• Closet floors cleared of all items.
• Remove sheets, blankets, and spreads from beds.
• Have your pets/children in a secure area because
the installers will leave doors open while bringing in tools
and flooring.
• Verify with us whether you are responsible for moving
the furniture/appliances or removing the old flooring.
• There is the possibility you may need to do some
touch up painting on walls/baseboards after your floor is
installed.
What
time will the installers arrive for my installation?
Installations scheduled for the morning will be arriving
at the job between 9am – 11am. Installations scheduled
for the afternoon will be at the job after 11am.
Do I
need to remove my old flooring or move furniture?
Please call us if you are not sure about whether you are
responsible for removing the old floor or moving furniture.
If you are moving the furniture, it must be moved completely
out of the installation areas. Please remember to remove
the old padding and leave the tack strips in place if you
are responsible for taking up the old carpet/pad.
When
do I pay?
The balance of your contract is due the day of the installation.
What is the installation warranty?
Your installation warranty is for one year from the date
of purchase.
What
causes carpet to shed?
Some carpets are manufactured with a stapled yarn. This
type of carpet does have a tendency to shed when it is first
installed. The more you vacuum the quicker the shedding
is eliminated. It may take up to 6 weeks to see a difference.
I can
see some of the seams in my carpet. What should I do?
Seams can be inevitable. Our installers are trained professionals
with many years of experience. The degree of seam visibility
can depend on texture, color of carpet, lighting and furniture
placement. A visible seam is not a defect with your carpet.
Regular vacuuming and normal foot traffic will help the
seam come together.
What
should I do if my carpet is wrinkling?
Sometimes carpet can wrinkle especially when there is a
change in weather. Please call us as soon as you notice
a wrinkle/ripple in your carpet. Putting off having your
carpet repaired can permanently damage it.

Maintaining your
floor covering is not unlike maintaining a vehicle. While
it isn’t nearly as costly and time consuming, it is
essential to the performance of your floor. Like a vehicle,
it needs regular maintenance (yearly professional cleaning
for carpet) and emergency repairs. After your flooring has
been installed, you will receive a Manufacturer Warranty
with detailed information about your flooring warranties,
care and maintenance. Each manufacturer has their own recommendations
for each flooring type. Please refer to the appropriate
care and maintenance of the manufacturer’s specifications
to sustain your floorings highest potential appearance and
function. Listed below are a few simple suggestions by Julie
to maintain your new floor.
Carpet
- Vacuum your carpet daily especially in high traffic areas.
Some carpets do shed. Frequent vacuuming will help shorten
the process.
- If you stain your carpet, please refer to your warranty
brochure or to the links listed below for spot cleaning
methods as quickly as possible.
Prevent dirt from collecting on your carpet by using mats
at all of the exterior entrances.
- If you need to have your carpet professionally cleaned,
please call us for a recommendation.
- If your carpet is wrinkling, please contact us to have it
stretched. Your installation warranty is for one year from
the date of installation.
Hardwood/Laminate
- Please sweep your floors daily and mop clean weekly with
a name brand cleaner.
- Use the proper protection on the bottom of all furniture
to prevent scratching.
- Use throw rugs or runners for inside and outside doorways
to help prevent dirt and grit from scratching your floor.
- Wipe up spills immediately.
- Remember that hardwood is a natural product and color can
vary from board to board.
- Since hardwood and laminate are both wood based products,
they will expand and contract with seasonal temperature
changes.
